Phnom Penh (VNA) - The Secretary of State of Cambodia's Ministry of Cults and Religion, Sun Kim Hun, stressed the importance of exchange activities between Buddhist dignitaries of Cambodia and Viet Nam at a working session with a high-level delegation of the Viet Nam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in Phnom Penh on Oct. 23. The Vietnamese Buddhist delegation, led by Most Venerable Duong Nhon, Vice president of the VBS Executive Council, paid a first ever visit to Cambodia from Oct. 20-24 at the invitation of the Cambodian Buddhist Sangha. Host and guests exchanged views on the history, foundation, and operations of Buddhism, as well as education on and expansion of Buddhism in the two countries. Both sides expressed a desire for closer cooperation between Buddhist communities in the two countries, thus contributing to bilateral solidarity and friendship between Viet Nam and Cambodia. During the visit, the Vietnamese Buddhist dignitaries met with Tep Vong, Supreme Patriarch of Cambodia's Mahayana sect and Bua Kri, Supreme Patriarch of Cambodia's Hinayana sect. At those meetings, conducted in an atmosphere of religious harmony, Vietnamese and Cambodian Buddhist dignitaries agreed on important matters on bilateral Buddhism cooperation.
